In terms of simple plot line, Shakespeare suffers from some repetition. (Isn’t there mistaken identity in every play) Only we don’t notice because his language is so witty and challenging (perfect) that we’re never bored. Before you bring in the verdict on opera, I think you have to consider modern opera (Les Miz would qualify…no talking). We’ve already decided Puccini’s women-hating plots are merely a reflection of him and his era. Let’s go to NYC and check out the modern version of Tale of Two Cities! My only issue might be with Frank McCourt's.
